The Elections give you the opportunity to vote fellow students into positions to represent you across the University of Derby. There are a variety of positions, focussing on a range of topics including academic, sports, societies, liberation and more.

President

Suitable For: Any current student (you can take a year out or do the role straight after your final year) The Role: Full time, paid role for 1 year (July-July) Details: The President's job it is to oversee the entire Union who works to enact real change that positively affects student lives. This role involves regular meetings with important University staff, leading, supporting and coordinating the 3 vice-presidents and ensuring you work as a team.

Suitable For: Any current student (you can take a year out or do the role straight after your final year) The Role: Full time, paid role for 1 year (July-July) Details: The Vice-President (Education) oversees the Union's student representative structures and ensures that the students’ voice and opinions are not only heard, but are acted on. You'll find out what students want and help them to achieve it.

Vice President (Activities)

Suitable For: Any current student (you can take a year out or do the role straight after your final year) The Role: Full time, paid role for 1 year (July-July)Details:The Vice-President (Activities) supports Union Sports and Society members and events and encourages students to get involved. You’ll work alongside the University to increase membership, engagement and ensure students have the best possible experience.

Vice President (Welfare)

Suitable For: Any current student (you can take a year out or do the role straight after your final year) The Role: Full time, paid role for 1 year (July-July) Details: The Vice-President (Welfare) supports student welfare by raising awareness of support services whilst working with the Uni on issues affecting student well-being. You'll represent the needs and issues of all students & help represent and run events for students who identify as being part of a specific demographic i.e. LGBTQ.

Union Education Council Chair

The Part Time Officer (Education Chair) responsibilities include chairing and organising Education Councils, attending Academic Board and Union meetings. Full training and year-long support is given as well as rewards that support you in your role.

Union Equality & Diversity Chair

The Union Equality & Diversity Chair's responsibilities include chairing and organising Equality and Diversity Councils, liaising with the Part Time Officers for Equality an Diversity and attending Union meetings. Full training and year-long support is given as well as rewards that support you in your role.

Union Societies Chair

The Union Societies Chair is responsible for supporting Union Societies as well as supporting the Officer Team and Union Societies Council to increase student engagement with societies and volunteer opportunities with the Union. The Union Societies Chair will also chair and facilitate the Union Societies Council, seek the views of societies to influence their work and run at least one inter-society event.

Union Sports Chair

The Union Sports Chair is responsible for supporting Union Sports via the Sports Council as well as supporting the Officer Team to increase student engagement with sporting and volunteering opportunities within the Union. The Union Sports Chair will also facilitate and lead the Union Sports Council and to seek the views of sport clubs to influence their work, ensuring everything they do is very much student led.

Buxton Chair

The Buxton Chair will represent the needs of Buxton students, actively seek the views of Buxton students to inform their work and will encourage the participation of Buxton students in the Union. The Buxton Chair will also convene and chair the Buxton Campus Committee and lead the team of Buxton Part Time Officers.

Buxton Activities Officer

The Buxton Activities Officer will work with other Part Time Officers to ensure activities across the Union are inclusive and support the Vice-President (Activities) in raising awareness of issues affecting students participating in activities at the Buxton Campus. The Buxton Activities Officer will also attend and contribute to the Buxton Campus Council meetings and encourage the participation in sports, societies and activities.

Buxton Events Officer

For: Any current student who studies at the Buxton site. The Role: Part time, voluntary. Details: Responsibilities include actively seeking the views of students on at the University of Derby in Buxton to help ensure that an events programme for the Academic year is in place. To assist the Union in creating ideas and organising events/trips for Buxton HE students liaising with the Union marketing department to advertise and promote them.

National Student Rights Campaigner (NUS Delegate)

*PLEASE NOTE: NUS have not yet allocated spaces for this role, as such the total number of available Delegate positions in this election is subject to change before the count.* For this role you would attend the NUS Conference - your transport and accommodation and some food will be paid for. The conference is 3 days, where you will vote on national policy which will affect students in Further & Higher Education across the whole of the UK. You will also vote for your national officers.
