Zoe Walker

My name is Zoe Walker, and I am going to be starting the 1st year of my Criminology degree, I am currently completing my foundation year. Within my foundation year, I was the cohort rep for my year group and resolved quite a few issues that arose from the voice of the students, from influencing the creations forums for students to ask questions to the lecturers, technology issues and addressing deadline conflicts.

I gave presentations to the cohort and mixed cohort on feedback I have received as I feel that it is vital that you as students feel that you are taken seriously when issues are raised and that you are given the feedback from meetings within a timely manner. The PowerPoint that I made was shared within the representation group page for other reps to use. I have attended all meeting and rep conventions with feedback from the cohort and also met the Vice-Chancellor of the University and directed questions to her. I have good relations with lecturers and the Union alike and feel that I have good contacts to resolve issues alongside elected program reps, I can support others to resolve issues and take over more complex or difficult ones to get the best outcome for the students and university.

If elected to be the PTO for Law and social sciences, I will:

  • Try and promote this proactive stance across program cohort reps to adopt the positive, can-do attitude and ensure that there are regular social events for you to voice concerns, have feedback given as well as get to know your programme reps better.
  • Work with lecturers to encourage them to continue to put students at the forefront of everything that they deliver. That they try to make lectures as interactive as possible, to increase learning opportunities for all, also ensuring, that the time frame for lecturers to respond to emails and correspondence is taken more seriously.
  • Campaign that library books that have been ordered to Friar Gate do not take as long as they have been taking to get to students.

Thank you for your time, and I hope that I can count on you voting myself be your part-time officer for Law and Social Science for the 2021-2022 academic year in return I will ensure your voice will be heard, taken seriously and acted upon.
