My name is Tiago Santos. I am in stage three of my BSc Hons Business Management Degree. I am hereby asking for your vote at the next Union Elections to help me become Part Time Officer for the Derby Business School at the University.
As a representative for my programme for two consecutive years, I have enjoyed making the voice of my fellow students heard at important programme meetings while also supporting those with specific issues throughout.
Placement Hunting Kickstart Scheme - With this experience in hand, I am looking to kickstart a placement hunting scheme. This will aim to reset students’ confidence in placements and internships after the past year’s disappointment given the global pandemic. Many students’ enthusiasm about placements may have been knocked since a lot of them were cancelled when the UK entered its first lockdown. I know this from speaking to my fellow students, some of which had actually obtained their own placement roles.
Futures Award Recognition - Furthermore, I want students to achieve the very best they can, along with their degree. This University prides itself in giving students the most experience, knowledge and accreditation throughout their time here, and for that reason I want to make the Futures Awards something that is more recognised by students and more encouraging for students to take part in. This will ultimately mean that more students will graduate with not only their degrees in hand, but also even more accreditation that is highly looked upon by employers.
Life Skills Workshops - After speaking to some students across the University, I know that there is a general need for more workshops that can help understand life skills like applications for mortgages, or even some simple things like the best ways to save money. I want to make sure that students leave this University with all the appropriate skills they need not only academically and ready for the workplace but also in general life. For this reason I would try to contact appropriate people to become guest speakers for students to help explain these things.
Once again, I am asking for your vote for this position because I truly feel like I can make an even bigger difference within the Derby Business School.
