Angelika Witasik

My name is Angelika, and I am currently finishing my second year of law at University of Derby. Law is my passion. I love working with people. For the second time, I was selected to represent the student voice (Year Programme Representative). Currently I also play the role of Academic Society Councillor. I am also the Social Secretary in Law Society. I am also part of the Student Legal Advice Centre.

I am a person who understands and can identify with many groups of students. I am a disabled person, so I perfectly understand people with disabilities. I have lived in England for 9 years, but I come from Poland, so I understand international students perfectly. I am 30 years old so I can identify the needs of both younger and more experienced students. I am a mother, which gives me a perfect understanding of the problems that parents must deal with.

My main goals for the coming year:

- Improving communication between students and the University. Nowadays it is very important that the problems can be efficiently solved by the right people and that we know where to get help.

- I finish Mental Health course because Mental Health is always extremely important, especially now. We live in a difficult time due to pandemics, online teaching, and other restrictions. Many people, it is impossible to meet the loved ones, and cannot cope with the home situation and often also financial. All these problems cause nervous breakdowns. I would like to help improve the Mental Health service and offer individual sessions with me in which I will try to help. I would like to focus a lot of Mental Health this year.

- Improving the flow of information between students and lecturers. Students often get presentations at last minute before lectures, they are often changed at the last minute, which makes it difficult to prepare for classes. Often the information about lectures, assignments or exams is incomplete or incomprehensible, which causes a lot of stress and problems.
