I am currently a PhD student in my second (almost third!) part time year at UoD and I am studying Anthrozoology with both behavioural and psychology aspects. My main project is looking at human-animal interactions and the perceptions and influences these have in inndustry. I am currently a Team Manager and Lecturer at Derby College and have been employed here for over 9 years so I have a substantial educational background both in delivery and study.
The Postgraduate Research role will enable me to use the opportunities that have been given to me throughout my time at UoD in my studies and through my roles at DCG. I have a strong passion in ensuring that all students are able to achieve their full potential, whilst also pushing students to further challenge themselves both personally, but also within their own career aspirations; enabling each student to excel. We are currently in unprecedented times and I feel as the PGR community could be stronger and have more of a hold to help influence us as individuals, but to also support others coming into PGR studies.
- I would like to be able to represent the view-points of all post graduate students and provide opportunities for all to develop their skillset both academically but personally.
- I also feel that Mental Health is a key aspect within our community and I would like to ensure further emphasis and support is put in place to help PGR students with any problems to ensure every student has the ability and access to succeed.
- I would like to emphasise that I would also like to encourage the further sharing of resources and good practice, I am aware their are many things going on, but the uptake is minimal and I would like to further understand why this is the case as I believe this is a key aspect for studying for a PhD and something we should be involved in.
