Vote Jack Tymon For President

- It is Time for Tymon -

For me, University is more than a Degree.
It is an investment – of your time and money.
By voting for Jack Tymon, I will ensure you get the most for your time and money.

The student experience in the past 12 months has not been the student experience you deserve. A vote for me will be a promise that your experience will get better. Your time at Uni should create some of the best memories, let me ensure you can make those memories.

University is so much more than a degree. It is the friends you make, the things you try, the societies you join and the sports you play. This past year has made those opportunities so difficult to happen. As your Union President, I will make sure that you get the most out of the next year.

My Manifesto

Better funding for Societies, Sports and Student Led Services.

  • Having the opportunity to take part in activities is such a massive part of the university experience and you deserve the best access and best facilities possible!

  • This year the clubs, teams and groups that we all love have not been used and accessed as we would have planned. That is why I want them to be kickstarted with extra cash as we head into the new year! I want you to have more opportunities to take part in things at university!

  • I want next year to be the best year for all activities ever!

Improved Mental Health services and facilities.

  • I want more appointments available so you can be helped as soon as possible at a time that suits you!

  • Drop in Mental Health and Wellbeing Sessions. Booking an appointment can be daunting. I want trained advisors on hand to help you when you might need it most.

  • ‘Look out for a Mate’ training being made available to all students and all teachers so they can keep an eye out for anyone who might be struggling with mental health .

Free Sanitary Products for students at all University sites.

  • When elected I pledge to provide free sanitary products across all university sites. According to figures, many students across the UK have said that lack of access to sanitary products impacts their ability to attend lessons and lectures. This should not be the case and when elected this will be changed at Derby.
  • However, my pledge does not stop there, I also want staff to have access to these free products.

Total transparency on what the Union is doing for You.

  • It is your Union. It is here to serve you. A vote for me will ensure a weekly update on what the union has done to make your time at University better. I want the union to hold the university to account and ensure you get the best service provided by the University as possible.

  • Derby University made promises in their prospectuses on what they would offer you. I will make sure they keep these promises to you. Let me hold them to account.

Ensure that no students are left behind or become disadvantaged as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions.

  • In this past year, you have not got the value from university you deserve. I will make sure you are not left short changed! My plans include proper help for students looking for rent rebates on housing or other permits they may have purchased. This includes students in private accomodation, helping students challange private landlords to make sure they are not losing money for time they cannot live in their student homes.  No student should be left out of pocket as a result of the last 12 months.

  • If additional lockdowns are to occur causing a university closure I want to see accommodation reimbursement for lockdown periods, care packages with food being supplied to those who are shielding, and sufficient mental health support on hand 24/7, to help everyone in the tough times of lockdown. I will ensure the services you need, will be there for you at the time you need them.

Discounted rates for Students and Alumni on Non-University public transport.

  • Whether you use public transport to travel to university, or use it for recreation, use it to get to work, or travel to placements. I want you to have the most affordable travel possible!

  • Just up the road at Sheffield university, any bus in the city is £1. This is what I want in for you at Derby. I want this to be available for students but also Alumni too!!!

Who I am.

I am a 3rd Year Theatre Arts Student. I was born in Derbyshire and have lived here all my life. I love where i'm from and I want to make sure the University looks after the students in the place I have grown up.
I am the Assistant head of Phantom Radio and asides from broadcasting for the University I also host regular shows on BBC Radio Derby. I’ve even managed to feature some of the fantastic sports and societies on my shows!
I also love films! I worked at a cinema until I was furloughed last march. I'd probably say Love Actually or Pride are my Number 1 picks!
I am a keen cyclist, and since the Peak District is literally on our doorstep, I love getting out into them and exploring the amazing County of Derbyshire.
I am truly passionate about change. University is so much more than a degree. A vote for me will ensure you get the most out of your time at Derby.

It is Time for Real Change. It is Time for Tymon
