Hi everyone, I am Stuart Hall, and I am a master’s degree student studying Audio Engineering at the Markeaton Street campus in Derby.
I want to run for Vice President Activities to manage the current student activities and to help expand the range of activities available to students at the University of Derby. Activities that have been suggested to me so far would be to have a gliding section based either at the Lancashire and Derbyshire gliding club at Great Hucklow near Buxton or at The Gliding Centre at Husbands Bosworth. Another activity that could be included is a Caving and Potholing Section, The Peak District in Derbyshire has some of the most spectacular caves in the UK and has caves suitable for complete novices right through to expert level cavers. I would love to hear from anyone that would like to get a new activity added into the Union of Students and I hope to become your VP to assist you to get your activity brought to life.
I believe that the student activities are a really important part of the student experience, and I want to work to ensure that as many activities as possible remain available to the student body during these awful covid-19 times as long as they can be done safely. Student life is not just about academia, the activities we are able to become involved in also help us to become more rounded people when we leave the University.
I am currently the Vice President of the Musician and Band Society and I in the past I have been the Technical Services group manager at The University of Warwick. I have also been a National Executive Committee member of BETA the Broadcasting Trade Union, so I have a bit of experience in working and negotiating at this level.
I hope that you will give me your vote for this role and that I will be able to support and expand the student activities provided by the Union of Students.
