The Union Awards celebrates students’ achievements and successes, combining both the Community and Education awards.

This year’s awards ceremony is being organised in collaboration with 4 Events Management students who have chosen ‘Springtime Soiree’ as the theme. so expect a spectacular secret garden themed celebration.

Tickets include a welcome drink on arrival and a burger buffet
Performances from Musical Theatre and Musician and Band
DJ throughout the night
Dress Code – pastel / formal
Doors open at 7pm

The biggest sporting event of the year is back on home turf!

Join us as we go head-to-head with the University of Hertfordshire to win our third consecutive Varsity. A full day of fixtures, live entertainment, hot food and drinks - this is the perfect way to spend a day, even if you're not already part of a Sports Community! Varsity is a time for the whole student body to come together and cheer on Team Derby, and hopefully watch us raise the trophy for the third year in a row 👀

Eating disorders are often misunderstood and many students who are struggling may feel isolated or unsure where to turn.

This session offers a supportive space to build understanding of different eating disorders and the impact they can have on mental health and student life. Together, we’ll explore how to recognise when someone might be finding things difficult and consider thoughtful, compassionate ways to offer support.

By opening up the conversation, we can help reduce stigma and create a university community where students feel seen, supported, and able to seek help.

This Active Bystander Training is designed to equip you and your student groups with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely intervene when witnessing harmful or inappropriate behaviour, such as within community spaces.

This training aims to empower you to recognise problematic behaviours and take proactive steps to support those affected.

By becoming an active bystander, you not only help prevent harm but also can play a great role in ensuring our Union and student spaces are inclusive for everyone!

This workshop explores how humour can sometimes cross the line into disrespectful or harmful behaviour.

What may be perceived as harmless banter can escalate into exclusion, catcalling, or bullying when boundaries are not recognised.

The session encourages reflection on the impact of language and behaviour, promoting respectful communication, accountability, and a more inclusive university community.

Free anti-spiking resources for your nights out
The space to get the answers to any questions you have about drugs or alcohol, without judgement
Support with accessing other help, such as wellbeing and sexual health services

Our friendly and approachable Sexual Violence Liaison Officers, Becca and Zoe, are visiting different halls this semester because they want to meet you, introduce themselves, and share how they can support students. Pop by to say hello, ask questions, and find out more about the ways they can help.

While they won’t be able to take disclosures during these visits, this is a chance to learn about the service and book a confidential appointment if you need one, helping you get the support you deserve in a safe and private way.
