This Varsity watch party is perfect for students who are curious about Varsity, as well as those who already know about it, to come together and watch the event through a live stream in a space away from the hustle and bustle of the Sports Centre.

Whether you know everything about sport or nothing at all, this event is all about enjoying Varsity in a more relaxed setting, without the busy and crowded environment of the Sports Centre.

A message from your Vice President (Welfare)

I understand that crowded and unpredictable environments are not suitable for everyone. As someone with a hidden disability, I also know that while some events can feel overwhelming, there is still a strong desire to be involved and to experience them. I have organised this event to ensure that no matter who you are or what your needs may be, if you want to engage with Varsity, you have the choice to do so in a way that best suits you. If you would like to, please register for a free ticket and come along to One Friar Gate Square for chilled vibes, quiet socialising, and free food, as we tune into the Varsity live stream and show our sports communities our support, no matter where we are.

What is Varsity anyway?

Varsity is an annual sporting competition that takes place nationally across the UK. All the partaking Universities have a competitor (ours is HertsSquad at University of Hertfordshire) and they take it in turns to host the event, and lots of different sports teams compete to decide which University keeps the Varsity trophy (we have won for the last two years!). This year, it's our turn to host which means the Sports Centre at Kedleston Road will be taken over by hundreds of sporty students (and spectators) who want to celebrate all things sport and support our athletes. The biggest sporting event of the year is back on home turf!

Join us as we go head-to-head with the University of Hertfordshire to win our third consecutive Varsity. A full day of fixtures, live entertainment, hot food and drinks - this is the perfect way to spend a day, even if you're not already part of a Sports Community! Varsity is a time for the whole student body to come together and cheer on Team Derby, and hopefully watch us raise the trophy for the third year in a row 👀

Every year one Student Meeting is designated an All Student Meeting, and any student can attend and have their vote on the policy and changes proposed. This ensures that the biggest changes made by the Union has the backing of the student body.

We encourage all students to join us, either in person or online, as this is a great opportunity to have your say and vote on any proposed policy changes.

If you'd like to submit your own policy proposal, you can do so by filling in this form.

The Union Awards celebrates students’ achievements and successes, combining both the Community and Education awards.

This year’s awards ceremony is being organised in collaboration with 4 Events Management students who have chosen ‘Springtime Soiree’ as the theme. so expect a spectacular secret garden themed celebration.

Tickets include a welcome drink on arrival and a burger buffet
Performances from Musical Theatre and Musician and Band
DJ throughout the night
Dress Code – pastel / formal
Doors open at 7pm

Our friendly and approachable Sexual Violence Liaison Officers, Becca and Zoe, are visiting different halls this semester because they want to meet you, introduce themselves, and share how they can support students. Pop by to say hello, ask questions, and find out more about the ways they can help.

While they won’t be able to take disclosures during these visits, this is a chance to learn about the service and book a confidential appointment if you need one, helping you get the support you deserve in a safe and private way.

This drop-in session will be held at Peak Court
