Community Awards

This awards evening celebrates the achievements and successes of the Union’s community. It recognises all of the fantastic events and opportunities that have been offered to Society and Student-Led Service members over the academic year, as well as the individuals that work behind the scenes to make them happen.

Community Awards 2025 was be held at the Farmhouse at Mackworth on Thursday 1st May, 7.00pm 'till late.

The Winners

  • Best Collaboration of the Year
    Winner: Musician & Band and Hiking
    Awarded for This award celebrates a successful event or campaign that involved equal collaboration between a society or student-led service and other parties. It emphasises teamwork, effective communication, and achieving a shared goal, recognising those who excel in working together to create impactful experiences.
  • Charitable Champion
    Winner: Occupational Therapy
    Awarded for The Charitable Champion award recognises individuals or groups who have shown exceptional dedication to charitable causes within societies or student-led services. It celebrates those who have organised multiple charitable events, supported other groups, and made a tangible impact on the community, with the focus on the effort rather than the total amount raised.
  • Committee of the Year
    Winner: Warhammer
    Awarded for Recognising the committee that has best fulfilled its roles and responsibilities, this award celebrates teamwork, effective communication, and consistent engagement with the Union. It honours committees that have worked together to overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and maintain a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Committee member of the Year
    Winner: Aimee Barnes
    Awarded for Recognising an individual committee member who has shown exceptional commitment to their role and the committee’s goals. This award honours those who have worked collaboratively, taken initiative, and played a significant role in ensuring the success of their committee’s activities.
  • Event of the Year
    Winner: Hiking – Camping Trip
    Awarded for Awarded to a society or student-led service that has successfully organised and executed an outstanding event. This award acknowledges well-planned, well-executed events that are financially sustainable and have a lasting impact on members and the wider student community.
  • Member of the Year
    Winner: Saskia Beech
    Awarded for The Member of the Year award honours a member who has made an outstanding contribution to their society or student-led service. This individual has positively impacted their peers, and their efforts are recognised through strong nominations from fellow members, emphasising their dedication and contributions.
  • Most Improved
    Winner: Enactus
    Awarded for Recognising societies or student-led services that have made notable improvements in areas like membership, financial stability, performance, and engagement. This award celebrates positive changes that have led to the overall growth and success of the group.
  • Most Inclusive
    Winner: Warhammer
    Awarded for The Most Inclusive award is given to the student group that has gone above and beyond in promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). This award celebrates efforts to empower underrepresented groups, combat discrimination, and create an inclusive and welcoming environment through events and initiatives.
  • New Society of the Year
    Winner: Hiking
    Awarded for This award honours a newly established society that has made a strong impact during its first year. It acknowledges societies that have demonstrated clear planning, effective promotion, significant recruitment, and active engagement with their members and the Union, alongside achieving financial stability and holding events.
  • Society of the Year
    Winner: Musical Theatre
    Awarded for This prestigious award is given to a society that has excelled in financial management, student engagement, and effective promotion. It celebrates societies that have consistently worked to create meaningful experiences for members, achieving bronze status in the Society Recognition Scheme and maintaining a strong and active membership.
  • Student Led-Service of the Year
    Winner: Enactus
    Awarded for Awarded to a student-led service that has demonstrated excellent financial management, strong engagement with the student body, and effective promotion of its services. This award recognises the sustainability and positive impact of a service within the student community.
  • University Honours
    Winners: Lexie Crofts, Laura CLarke, Hannah Wilson, Kaeda Hipkiss, Betina, Sky Stone, and Meg Kings
    Awarded for University Honours are awarded to final-year students who have made an outstanding, lasting contribution to the Union and their society. This prestigious award recognises exceptional leadership and commitment, given to those who have served on a committee for at least two years and have demonstrated significant impact.
  • Community Personality
    Winner: Kaeda Hipkiss
    Awarded for This award celebrates an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to Union Societies and/or Student-Led Services. The recipient has had a lasting impact on their student group and embodies the spirit of community, fostering inclusivity and achievement while positively influencing their peers.
  • Recognition Scheme
    Awarded for The Society/SLS Recognition Scheme awards societies or student-led services based on their achievements and engagement, with categories for Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. This award recognises the society’s or SLS’s commitment to improving its activities and impact within the student community.
  • University Colours
    Awarded for University Colours are awarded to final-year students who have been active members and represented their society or student-led service for at least three years. This prestigious award honours students who have demonstrated continuous dedication and made a significant contribution to their group throughout their time at university.
