Archery is one of the most inclusive sports you can try. It isn't about being the strongest or the fastest, it's about focus, teamwork, personal progress and having fun. From your very first arrow, you'll be supported by experienced members who remember exactly what it was like to be a beginner. Whether you're looking to compete at university level, learn a completely new skill, make new friends, or simply try something different, there's a place for you here. Join Your House. Archery is one of the oldest sports in the world, yet it continues to evolve with modern equipment and Olympic competition. At Derby we welcome all styles of archery, including: • Recurve • Barebow • Compound • Longbow • Traditional No previous experience is needed and all equipment is provided while you're learning. More Than Just Shooting! Some of our best memories happen after the bows are packed away. Throughout the year we organise a range of social events including: • Movie nights • Pub quizzes • Halloween shoots • Christmas fun shoots • End of term celebrations • House challenges • Trips and competitions Many of our members join without knowing anyone. Our members regularly compete at: • BUCS • Regional Toucans League • Friendly university competitions New archers are actively encouraged to compete, with novice categories giving everyone the opportunity to experience university competition in a supportive environment. Whether your goal is representing Derby nationally or simply achieving your next personal best, we'll help you get there. Never Tried Archery? Perfect. Our free 'Give It A Go' sessions are designed specifically for complete beginners. We'll provide all the equipment and show you the basics, giving you the chance to discover whether archery is for you before committing to membership. Keep an eye on our Instagram for upcoming dates during the first few weeks of each semester. Beginner's Course If you decide to join, your next step is our Beginner's Course. This Archery GB approved course teaches: • Safe range practice • Shooting technique • Equipment handling • Range etiquette • The fundamentals of recurve archery The course costs just £10 and is required for anyone completely new to archery before attending regular club sessions. Where We Shoot Throughout the academic year, we train at the University's indoor sports facilities. This is on Keddleston Road Campus. Membership Membership gives you: Access to the range Weekly coached training sessions Access to club equipment Workshop sessions Entry to social events Competition opportunities Support from experienced archers Student Archery GB membership and insurance, allowing you to shoot at affiliated clubs across the UK Fees Item Price Description Sports Union Pass £20 A requirement to join any Sports Union Club Membership £40 See above for description ArcheryGB (insurance) Inclusive in Membership (for students) Normally, £25, but included for UDAC members, also allowing you to shoot with any archery club in the UK! (If you are not a student, you will have to purchase ArcheryGB seperately) Beginner's Course £10 An ArcheryGB regulatory requirment for new archers. This is needed if you are new to archery and will teach you the basics with a qualified coach. Ready to Join Us? We’ll provide all the equipment and our friendly club members will show you everything you need to know. Just bring yourself, have some fun and see if you can hit the target! Please arrive on time so we can go through our safety briefing before the session starts. What to wear: Comfortable clothing - nothing too baggy and preferably short or tight sleeves.
