Cricket

Welcome to University of Derby Cricket Club

We are an inclusive and welcoming cricket club that caters for all genders, abilities and levels of experience, from beginners looking to get involved in cricket to experienced players competing at university level.

We currently run a competitive Men’s BUCS team competing in the BUCS Midlands Tier 1 which we recently got promoted to !!, alongside a mixed-gender Development Squad and a dedicated Women’s team. This provides opportunities for everyone to play, develop their skills and represent the University in competitive fixtures.

Our outdoor season runs from April to June, with regular BUCS and club fixtures throughout the summer. During the winter, we also compete in both the Men’s and Women’s BUCS Indoor Tournaments, giving our players the opportunity to stay competitive and involved throughout the academic year.

Whether you are an experienced cricketer or completely new to the sport, there is a place for you at the University Cricket Club.

What we want to achieve

Our goal is to maintain our position in the league while pushing for a strong finish and challenging towards the top of the table. We also are looking to continually improve our development and women's friendly teams by playing more friendly but high standards fixtures with clubs from Derby and with other Universities.

Training

We have 2 training sessions a week throughout the academic year. We aim to split the sessions into 2, Social/Development (UOD Sports Centre) and Performance (Derbyshire County Indoor Centre). In our Performance Sessions, we will look to split our focusses. In the 1st Semester we will look to focus on keeping fit, whilst also keeping an eye on our upcoming BUCS Indoor games. In the 2nd Semester, we will look to prepare the players for outdoor season.

For anyone wanting to get involved, we will be running our first 2 training sessions in the Sports Centre as 'Give It A Go' sessions. This allows anyone to come to the first 2 sessions completely free of charge and try out our sport.

Socials

Our weekly socials, held every Wednesday, are a huge part of life at the Cricket Club and are the perfect opportunity to meet new people, make friends and have a great time, whether you play cricket or not!

Throughout the year, we organise a wide range of themed nights, club socials and events, as well as joint socials with other sports clubs and societies across the University. We also run plenty of sober socials for those who prefer not to drink, with activities including laser tag, bowling, mini golf and much more !!

So whether you’re on the pitch, part of the wider club or just looking to get involved, join our socials, follow our social media and become part of the Rob Cross Barmy Army! There’s always something going on, and you definitely don’t want to miss out.

To access sessions, you will firstly need the Union Pass (£20) which allows you to join the union and take part in events. We have two different memberships, we have the Standard membership (£35) which is membership needed if you wish to participate in our training sessions as well as joining us on our social events. The second is the Social membership (£20), this membership is for those that wish to join us for our Wednesday social events but do not have intentions on training or playing for us. Finally there is the BUCS top up (£30) which is only needed if you are playing in our BUCS squads.
