Environmental & Sustainability Welcome to the University of Derby Environmental and Sustainability community! We are a new society that is open to anyone with an interest in the environment and sustainability, regardless of your course. We will provide an opportunity and space to interact with the environment, sustainable practices, and likeminded people! We have lots of exciting events and socials planned for the 25/26 year with EnSus, including: 🏞️ walks 🍻 quizzes 🦔 conservation activities 🚗 trips To name a few! We will be keeping our website and Instagram updated with any upcoming events and dates throughout the year, so give us a follow to make sure you do not miss out! We try to meet every Wednesday afternoon/evening, and there may be the occasional Saturday event. But don't worry, we will let you know in advance! Whatever your interests, there is something for everyone at EnSus! Fundraiser! We are hosting an Autumn-themed bake sale on Tuesday 4th November 2025 between 11am and 3pm in the atrium on Kedleston Road 🧁 We will be raising money for Days for Girls, a RAG-supported international charity trying to eliminate the stigma and limitations associated with menstruation, and the University of Derby Environmental and Sustainability community. The money raised will go on a 50/50 split! You will be able to purchase cakes and bakes including: Lemon drizzle cake Chocolate brownies Flapjack And more!! Every item will be £1 and this will be a cashless bake sale. to find out more information about Days for Girls, please follow this link - https://www.daysforgirls.org/ Upcoming events: Wednesday 5th November 2025 - Fairtrade Evening 🍫🎱 Join us for a fairtrade evening on Wednesday 5th November 2025! 🍫🎱 Arrive at the UoD Kedleston Road campus for N406 from 4:45pm for a 5pm talk from Dr Rosemarry Horry about fairtrade, including the importance of fairtrade and what the University of Derby does to be a fairtrade campus, followed by a Q&A 🍫 After the talk (predicted 5:30pm) we will have some friendly games of chocolate bingo - bingo with chocolate as prizes! 🎱 Estimated event finish time of 7pm Please note: This event is just for our members, so buy your membership to avoid missing out! Wednesday 12th November 2025 – Grassland Creation 🌱 Join EnSus on Wednesday 12th November at 2pm - 4pm for our Grassland Creation afternoon, in partnership with Derby Initiative for Green (DIG) Meet outside the UoD main campus steps for 2pm Help us to create a grassland area on campus! It will consist of raking the ground, spreading seeds, and re-raking the ground Estimated finish time of 4pm This is a great event to develop your/gain skills and wider your knowledge on grasslands while contributing to improving the environment on campus and helping the United Nation’s SDG 13 – life on land. Wednesday 19th November – Poster-making 📋 Want to learn more about how individuals can be more environmental and sustainable? Want to make a difference in the local community? Then join EnSus for a poster-making evening! Join us in B225 anytime from 4:30pm-7:30pm to learn and create a poster to be on display about an environmental- and/or sustainability-related topic! You can create a poster on a related topic of your choice (e.g. sustainable fashion consumption), or we have a list of ideas if you are unsure! This members-only event has several benefits, including: Expanding your environmental and sustainability knowledge Helping to educate other students about environmental- and sustainability-related information Improving your CV by developing your/gaining skills, such as innovation, creativity, research, and teaching (to name a few) Socialising with likeminded individuals We hope to see you there!
