Occupational Therapy Hello there! We are the Derby Occupational Therapy Society (D.O.T.S)! The D.O.T.S ethos comprises of three parts: Inform - networking and providing learning opportunities about the profession, healthcare, allied health care professionals, and more! Impact - we ensure to support our local and wider community by being inclusive whilst promoting OT! Inspire - creating socials to build friendships , support students and have fun! But also inspiring the next generation of Occupational Therapists. We host a range of events based on our ethos, so there is always plenty to get involved with and do! For example, we hold well-being wednesdays and dog walking ! We have previously arranged professional talks from OTs and other professionals to support academic learning and opportunities for students. We are open to ideas and suggestions and very much promote interprofessional learning between all health, social care and medical professions. There will be events in which you will get a CPD certificate too, plus one for joining. Meaning you could potentially gain CPD certificates a year to use as evidence of continuous learning! You don’t even have to be studying occupational therapy, anyone can join! We ask that you respect our ethos! We are also proud that this year we have introduced a look to the DOTS Society, which was voted and selected for by you the students at freshers fair on September 16th and 17th 2025. So far this year, we are already planning some exciting events including some of our returning regular events including: 1. Wellbeing Wednesday 2. Dog Walks But this year, we are continuing to take pride in our events. This will include a collaboration with one of this year's newest societies "The Ukrainian Students Society", combining our ideas of Occupation as a therapeutic measure with Ukrainian culture and heritage. We are also teaming up with the Union of Students and Soulful Serenity for a "Mind and Body De-Stress Evening" on November 7th. Midwifery will also be teaming up with us at some point too, so we can't wait and we are also open to opening up to a range of new ideas for our events. We are excited to see what is in store this year for DOTS. Here is our success over the last couple of years mainly: 2020, 2024 & 2025 Awards: 2025: Charitable Champion Bronze Award Union Colours Union Honours Academic Society of The Year 2024: Most Improved Society Bronze Award 2020: NSVA National Student Wellbeing Award 2020 (Eating Disorder Awareness Week); Most Charitable Society of the Year; Academic Society of the Year; Committee Recognition; Union Colours; Union Societies Platinum Status; Society of the Year. However, D.O.T.S is nothing without its members! Yes, We Need You!!! We are planning events in the next few weeks, both physical and virtual so you will find something to suit you! Keep an eye out on our social media sites and come along to our stand in fresher’s week (don’t be put off by OT-REX, he’s vegetarian). We’re a friendly (if not a little eccentric), bunch of people and the society has a very strong sense of community, supporting one another and promoting the OT love!
