The Friar Gate Flyer

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to your first ever issue of the Friar Gate Flyer! The newsletter for OFGS students, written by your student reps, to keep you up to date with student voice and Union of Students activity across One Friar Gate Square. We hope to circulate to all Law, Criminology, Criminal Psychology, Policing, Sociology, Business, and Joint Honours students who use OFGS. Future editions will include input from your department=E2=80=99s own student reps, and your societies.

A very warm welcome to all our brand new first years! We hope you are enjoying the start of your journey with us. Welcome back to returning second and third years, and PG students, the time flies by so fast doesn=E2=80=99t it?

Each programme has student representatives for each year group. Your student reps are there to give you a voice, and help to make your student experience great! If your course does not have a rep, talk to your programme leader.

Drop-ins

This year, we will be holding a weekly rep=E2=80=99s drop-in clinic run by your college and programme reps, to provide information and be on hand to take any feedback or questions, from both students and reps. The clinic will run on a Wednesday 2pm until 3pm in the G04 office off the social area on the ground floor. Come and say hello!

Wellbeing

Reps, Union Officers, and Staff recognised the need for Wellbeing services to be present at OFGS to support students. It is great news that we will soon have Wellbeing support at OFGS regularly.

Facebook

We now have a Facebook group just for students of OFGS, join us and search College of Business, Law and Social Sciences (Derby Law School) on Facebook.

Friar Gate Flying Stars

In each issue, we would like to highlight any person(s), student or staff, who has achieved something fantastic! So, if you have any suggestions of who may be deserving of a mention in the next issue, please email me at j.marvin@derby.ac.uk with details (and pictures always welcomed!)

Charlotte Hargreaves and Mike Teague won the Learning and Teaching Network award from the British Society of Criminology over the summer! Excellent work criminology team!

Second Year Policing student and Special Constable Sophie Wallace used her life saving skills to resuscitate and save a man in severe distress. Sophie is heading towards a nomination for a bravery award from the Royal Humane Society. Well done Sophie, you are an inspiration!
