This two-hour creative workshop, held during Black History Month UK 2025 under the theme “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” explores the powerful role of abolitionist ceramics in spreading messages of resistance and freedom.
Participants will first uncover how ceramics became a medium for abolitionist voices, carrying urgent calls for justice across homes and communities. Building on this history, you will then be guided to hand-build your own clay sculpture that communicates a message of racial equality and empowerment for today. Through this hands-on process, participants will use creativity as a form of activism - transforming clay into a vessel for solidarity, pride, and hope.
No prior ceramics experience is required; this workshop is open to all. Together, we will celebrate resilience, creativity, and the enduring fight for justice through the timeless language of clay.
Your VP (Welfare) Kaeda will be taking you on a trip to the National Justice Museum to take part in this powerful workshop. PLEASE NOTE: we will be meeting at Derby Bus Station (at Bay 5) where we will be catching the Red Arrow bus to Nottingham, then taking a short walk to the museum. To book your place, please purchase a ticket - this will be the only cost of the trip.
