OT Society Trip to a 'School Based OT Clinical Forum Twilight Event'

 This extended twilight evening event will feature a range of guest speakers from professionals working within education settings. We will also have the opportunity to hear from young adults involved in creating an inclusive leaning community.

'Creating an Inclusive Learning Community'

Dr Annette Roebuck (Principal Lecturer in Occupational Therapy, Coventry University and Director, Communicate2U) and Chris Field (Head teacher Selly Oak Trust School)

This presentation will explore an exciting collaboration between teachers, occupational therapists and Communicate 2U to create an inclusive learning community in a specialist school setting.

Communicate2U was set up to use creative talents to support young people with additional communication needs to become communication experts. Together with Selly Oak Trust School, a vision of creating a smooth transition from school through to adulthood and work has been created. Young people in school and college can undertake education programmes based around the work of the company. The communication expert role can only be undertaken by people with additional communication needs.

'Contemporary Student Practice Placements in Schools'

Jenny Gregory (Professional Clinical Lead in Occupational Therapy), Lyndsay Steventon (Senior Occupational Therapist) and Laurie Taylor (Deputy Head teacher, Topcliffe Academy School)

This presentation will explore the journey from introducing contemporary student occupational therapy placements to embedding regular occupational therapy input into this school setting. Teacher and occupational therapy experiences will be shared, whilst examining the impact on student's participation and education.
