On Wednesday 24th September the Union held its annual All Student Meeting, where a series of changes to the Union of Students were voted on by students. It was great to see so many members taking part in this important process, and we would like to thank everyone who turned out to vote and voice your opinions, either in person, virtually or by using our postal voting system.

The outcome of each vote

PASSED Proposal 1: Changing from 4 Executive Officers to 3
This proposal was to change from 4 Executive Officers to 3 which would comprise President, Vice President (Education), and Vice President (Communities) with all three roles have a focus on student welfare.
PASSED Proposal 2: Changes to Standing Orders 1, 2, and 7
This proposal was to update these sections of the Standing Orders to reflect changes coming through following the strategic changes to Communities.
PASSED Proposal 3: Changes to Standing Order 3 - Elections
This proposal updated this Standing Order to reflect Student Officers not being elected, and clarified the processes of complaints, appeals, and disqualifications.
PASSED Proposal 4: Changes to Standing Order 4 – Union Democracy
This proposal sought to change the title of this Standing Order to Union Democracy to reflect the Union’s democratic processes, including the introduction of a new bi-monthly Union Meeting which is a change resulting from the Student Voice Review carried out last academic year.
PASSED Proposal 5: Changes to Standing Order 5 – Union Representatives
This proposal sought to change the title of this Standing Order to Union Representatives to reflect the inclusion of all representation structures, including the introduction of Student Organisers, Student Leaders, and updates to Student Reps.
PASSED Proposal 6: Changes to Standing Order 6 – Special Votes
This proposal was to clarify the process of Votes of No Confidence, and removing the option for a Vote of No Confidence on Student Officers or Leaders.
PASSED Proposal 7: Communities
This proposal was to update Standing Order 8 to reflect the new strategic move to Communities, and to merge the current Sports Standing Order with Standing Order 8 as Sports is now another Community.

What Happens Next?

Changes approved at the ASM will be put into effect and are being amended in our Standing Orders. You can expect to see these changes in action very soon.
