It is with regret that the Union of Students announces it will be closing the Dome Shop in Buxton. The Union has operated the shop for over 12 years, however over the last few years the shop has struggled to cover the running costs, with the Union predicting a substantial loss within the outlet this year. Whilst in previous years the Union has committed to running the shop for little or no profit, the scale of the losses in this year and previously, has given cause for the Union to review the shop’s activities. Following consultation with our staff affected by this review we can confirm the shop will unfortunately not be reopening in September.
We recognise the excellent service provided by the shop team to students and staff at the Dome and we remain committed to ensuring there remains access to a good value sandwich meal deal on campus, in addition to stationary and study supplies on site. We will therefore be working very closely with our team in Buxton and with the University to ensure core products will be available from the start of the new term and working alongside our elected student representatives on site to make sure any revised offer meets the needs of students at the Dome.
