Lyddia Cheah Yi Yu, a current Engineering student at the University, has been nominated in the ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ category in this year’s British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Awards. The award celebrates the domestic and/or international success of a current student studying at a BUCS member institution who has competed for their institution in BUCS this academic year. The award will recognise the highest possible standard of competition achieved by an eligible student.

Lyddia recently won Gold at the BUCS Women’s Badminton championships earning 12 BUCS points for the Athletic Union. As well as representing the University in the National Badminton League (NBL).

Rosie Hayles, Athletic Union President, commented:

"We’re extremely proud of Lyddia for being nominated in the ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ category. She has been a real asset to the Athletic Union, playing a fundamental role in the development of badminton at the University. It’s a great achievement having one of our students being recognised by the national governing body for sport in Higher Education.”

Winners will be announced on Thursday 14th July, 2016 at the BUCS Conference & Awards Dinner 2016, University of Warwick. We've got our fingers crossed for you Lyddia!
