On Monday 7th November, 16 students took part in a Fish ‘n’ Picks event in collaboration with Down To Earth Derby (an environmental group based in the city centre). Together they collected rubbish from the roads around campus and then enjoyed some traditional British fish & chips.

The students split into 2 groups to cover more area and filled 8 bin bags with rubbish. Each route ended up at a fish & chip shop where students were bought a fish and chip meal as a thank you for their hard work!

Students in one group reported not having enough time to collect all of the rubbish in one particular area and so a follow up event is being arranged called Coffee, Cake and a Clean up! Where students will be litter picking and then be treated to hot drinks and a cake.

The success of this initial event has sparked plans for a new campaign, 'Impact Derby', designed to integrate students into the community and help make the city a nicer, cleaner place for students and locals.
