We want to create a fair that's accessible to every student, which is why we've taken some extra steps to ensure everyone can join us!
It's important to us that all students are able to access our services, which includes our annual Freshers' Fair. This year we've worked with students and University staff to ensure the fair is as accessible as possible, as well as creating an event on campus that doesn't have a major impact on students attending lectures.
Alternative entrances
- You'll be able to enter through the Union doors (turn left after passing the Multi-Faith centre!) on both fair days if you would like to avoid going through the main doors and into the Atrium.
- By following the car parks and walking past the main building, you'll find an entrance at B-Block.
Sounds
We understand that the fair can get quite loud and be overwhelming, which is why we have allocated Quiet Zones and Quiet Hours at both the Atrium and the Sports Centre. Our Quiet Zones are located in W1 (on the balcony overlooking the Atrium) and the Track & Field Meeting Rooms in the Sports Centre (on the second floor).
We have a dedicated Quiet Hour on both days at the peak time of the fair, between 10.00am - 11.00am in both the Atrium and the Sports Centre. You'll be able to speak to stall holders and our student Communities with less background noise.
You can also pickup some free earplugs from the Union InfoPoint desk so you can browse the fair without as much noise.
Overcrowding
Using student feedback from last year's fair, we have made the decision to reduce the number of stalls at the fair to ensure that we are not met with overcrowding issues. In the Atrium, excluding some University services on the balcony, the fair will be confined to the lower Atrium space; this is to ensure that the walkways remain open and accessible for everybody. We have also asked stallholders to keep their activities short to avoid long queues forming. But don't worry - there are still lots of amazing organisations to chat to, and plenty of freebies to be claimed!
