In short, the By-Elections are held to fulfil any roles that did not get filled during the main elections. This year, we have 15 roles available for students to represent the voices of their cohorts and improve the student experience.

What are the By-Elections?

The By-Elections are a secondary elections period where we aim to fill the remaining Officer posts. These posts either had no candidates in the main elections or the candidate running did not meet the required number of votes to be elected. This is an opportunity for anyone who missed the original nominations period to put themselves forward for a role.

Why do we need Student Representation?

At the Union of Students, we rely on elected Student Officers to represent the student body and make real changes and improvements to the student experience. We pride ourselves on being student-led and having the needs and wants of the student body at the heart of everything we do, so the input from our Student Officers is crucial in ensuring we are representing the entire student body across a range of areas.

Why should you nominate yourself?

Becoming a Student Officer and working with the Union is a great way for you to build confidence, improve employability prospects, and have a say in your own student experience. You'll be representing the voice of your peers through running campaigns that will help bring about real changes. It'll also look great on your CV!

Nominations are open from now until Tuesday 23rd April. You can nominate yourself through the elections page on our website. If you would like to find out more, please get in touch with the Union's Democracy and Governance Coordinator, Alexa: alexa.toms@derbyunion.co.uk.

What else do I need to know?

Voting is open from 9.00am April 29th until midday May 2nd. During this period, you'll be able to read the personal statements from all of the candidates and make an informed decision on who best represents you and has the best ideas to make a positive impact on the Union. We will be hosting a results night on Thursday May 2nd at The Maypole from 5.00pm - 6.00pm where you'll be able to join us to celebrate your newly elected Officers!
