What do you do?
In short, we do a bit of everything! From shops to support, the Union is your one stop shop for all things student experience. We exist to represent you, which is why we’re run by students, for students. Literally. Four elected students help to run the whole organisation on behalf of the student body; they’re supported by the rest of the Union team to work on the things that are important to you.
Our services include:
- Advice – we have a team of friendly Advisors who can offer support, guidance and resources across a variety of topics, from academic support to sexual health.
- Communities – we have over 100 Communities that offer anything from Dodgeball to Debating, from Hiking to History and Computer to Commuter Students. The Communities exist to help you create connections with likeminded students and join some extra-curricular activities.
- Student Voice – we value student voice and feedback as it helps us to adapt our offerings to meet the needs and wants of current students, which is why we have a dedicated Voice team to help give students a platform.
- Outlets – our very own coffee shop, Blends, can be found at Kedleston Road, Markeaton Street and the Cavendish Building; here you’ll be able to pick up hot and cold drinks and delicious sweet treats! We also have Keddies, your one stop shop for any supplies you’ll need whilst at Kedleston Road - from meal deals to hoodies,
How can I get involved?
There are SO many ways you can get involved with us, all of which will enhance your student experience and also help you when you leave university, by giving you something to put on your CV!
You can join a Community for some extra-curricular activities, and you can even run for a committee position and lead the Community – which will provide you with skills and training that’ll enhance your CV. You can also get involved in our student voice mechanisms by representing your coursemates' opinions and feedbacks and getting paid to fill out surveys!
