Today (8th February), we witnessed our first ever Union proposal - with student Sunil popping the question to girlfriend Lizzie in Blends at Kedleston Road.
As a Union, we're used to proposals regarding extended opening hours across University sites, better microwave facilities for students and proposals to change policies at the AGM - but we've never experienced a marriage proposal before!
Biomedical Health student Sunil got down on one knee in Blends this morning - the spot he met his now wife-to-be Lizzie two years ago - and she said yes! Health and Social Care student Lizzie was thrilled with her beautiful new ring and told us:
"We knew we were going to get engaged, we just didn't know when. Sunil actually let slip in his sleep that he was thinking of proposing - so I had a bit of a warning!"
The couple are planning a January 2021 wedding, but said it will depend how much money they can save as to when and where they decide to host their big day.
We think they should book out the Academy - but we'll leave it up to the happy couple.
Both students have been heavily involved with the Union over the last year, with both getting stuck into Welcome Hero duties through the September Freshers period.
We wish them a lifetime of happiness together and were glad to be part of Sunil's proposal plans.
