Women's Football match - A derby Student kicking a football

Wednesday marked the opening day of the BUCS season for our UoD sports teams, who looked to kickstart their campaigns positively.

Beginning with the Football results, the Men’s 1sts, 2nds and 3rds were all victorious and started their league seasons promisingly; as did the Women’s 2nds, who won 4-2 at Kedleston Road.

Meanwhile the Women’s Football 1sts drew 2-2 in Nottingham, as the Men’s 4ths and 5ths fell to marginal defeats at the hands of Brooksby Melton and Lincoln respectively.

The Women’s Badminton 2nds drew 4-4 with Warwick, while the 1sts earned themselves an impressive 6-2 win.

The Men’s Badminton teams were not so fortunate however, as both lost by that same scoreline of 6-2.

Among the successes of the day were the Basketball teams, as both the Men’s and Women’s teams won relatively comfortably; the former at home to Anglia Ruskins and the latter away at Birmingham City University.

The Volleyball teams were equally successful as the Men won 3-0 versus Staffordshire and the Women secured a narrow 3-2 win over Northumbria.

Unfortunately, that was where the wins ended for the UoD sports teams on the day, although there were still some good showings on display.

Both Squash teams lost, the 2nds by a scoreline of 3-0 to Nottingham Trent 3rds, while the 1sts were defeated 2-1 by Lincoln.

The Men’s Rugby Union 1sts also fell to defeat at Harper Adams University, losing 41-12.

The Women’s Netball 2nds were unlucky as they succumbed to a 36-30 loss to Birmingham City University.

As for the Women’s Lacrosse team, they lost 10-7 to Loughborough away from home.

Also defeated by a margin of three points were the Men’s Hockey 1sts, who were beaten 3-0 by Birmingham 6ths.

Finally, the Men’s Table Tennis and Tennis teams also failed to register wins on their BUCS returns, as the former lost 16-1, with the latter running it closer, losing 4-2.
