It was a week of mixed results for our University of Derby sports teams, as the second week of BUCS got underway.

Arguably the standout home performance of the week came from the Women’s Basketball team who beat Oxford 2nds 84-36 at Kedleston Road.

Meanwhile, the Football results were also overwhelmingly positive as the Men’s 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and 4ths—as well as the Women’s 1sts—all recorded important wins.

Unfortunately, the Women’s 2nds came up short away to Birmingham City University 2nds, as did the Men’s 5ths against their Nottingham Trent counterparts.

The Women’s Badminton teams remained unbeaten, as the 1sts won 8-0 away to Birmingham, while the 2nds beat Cambridge 5-3.

The Men’s Badminton teams however, did not get the results they desired; both falling to defeats at the hands of Cranfield and Birmingham respectively.

Due to competing in the same division, our UoD Squash teams faced off against one another, as the 1sts won 3-0.

The Netball results were mixed, as the 1sts earned a hard-fought 51-43 victory, while the 2nds lost 63-19.

The Volleyball teams were unable to carry last week’s form into this one, as both Men’s teams and the Women’s team were beaten.

The Table Tennis team recovered from the previous week’s defeat to earn a narrow 9-8 win over Nottingham Trent’s 5ths, whilst in the Tennis, our 1sts lost 5-1 to Birmingham’s 4ths.

The Men’s Hockey team came close to recording their first win of the season, as they drew 2-2 at Kedleston Road with Worcester.

Unfortunately, the Women’s Hockey team suffered a heavy loss to Loughborough 6ths, while the Lacrosse team were also comfortably beaten by Leicester 1sts.

Ending on a positive note, the Men’s Futsal teams kickstarted their campaigns last Sunday with impressive away wins; the 2nds beating Nottingham Trent 3rds 15-2, as the 1sts beat Trent’s 1sts 7-6.

The 2nds will look to put on a similar performance as they face De Montfort University 2nds on Sunday, meaning that the action does not stop here for BUCS this week.
