What is the Union Advice Service?

The Union of Student’s Advice team provides a free, confidential advice and support service for all University of Derby Students. Independent to the University, our advice is completely impartial for any student seeking advice, support and information on a range of issues and concerns. Our main areas of advice include; academic issues including offences, appeals and issues affecting personal studies; student conduct, complaints and disciplinaries.

We can also support and signpost for many other issues including finance, housing and wellbeing.

Where can I find you?

We are located in the Union Quarter of the University but there are lots of ways you can contact us. We will also be offering support at other campuses so keep your eye out on social media to see where else we may be based.

  • You can call us on 01332 591507
  • You can book an appointment online
  • You can email us
  • You can contact us via the Live Chat function on the website

Who can come to you for help?

Any student at the University of Derby or Partnership college – no matter which campus, whether you are online, postgraduate, or an international student. We are here for you.

My course is taught online - can I still get advice even if I’m not based at Kedleston Road to have an appointment in person?

Absolutely! As well as face-to-face appointments, we also offer over the phone appointments and Microsoft Teams appointments. If you are unable to make a specific appointment, we are also able to offer support through email.

I am worried that my problem is silly and not significant enough to make an appointment – what should I do?

Never be worried about asking a question because no matter how small, we are happy to help. If you just have a simple enquiry, come visit our friendly info and Advice assistants at the Union welcome desk or contact us through the live chat feature on the website. If you need specific advice or guidance regarding an issue you are facing, then please book an appointment with one of the advisors.

I am worried that you may not be able to help with my problem – what should I do?

Definitely still contact us because even if we can’t help with your problem, we can always signpost you to the correct department or external agency to put you in touch with the right person.

We’re happy to help!
