Throughout November and December, we will be fundraising for Umbrella as part of Disability History Month.

Umbrella supports families living in Derby City and Derbyshire providing a range of exciting activities. Most services in Derbyshire are provided in Amber Valley, Erewash, Derby City, South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire Dales.

Anyone can refer a child or young person to Umbrella including families, social workers, teachers and youth workers.

Umbrella support children and young people aged 5 to 30 with any additional needs, including physical, sensory, learning and behavioural disabilities. They are able to support a child or young person no matter what their disability as our services are person-centred to meet individual needs.

Sophie Paul, your Disability Student Officer, backs this charity because

"Umbrella aims to empower disabled children, young people and their families through providing support with both independence and participating in activities, depending on the needs of the person. This helps disabled people in Derbyshire to be more integrated into their community, and having the ability to access this support is hugely beneficial to a person's wellbeing, as it allows them to live their life to the full".

Owen Marques, VP Welfare, on Disability History Month

"We are sometimes quick to assume what 'disabled' means and how it may impact an individual and their capabilities. There are so many extraordinary people out there who battle with their, often hidden, disabilities who achieve amazing things every day. This is something I wish to highlight, celebrate and acknowledge as a part of a bigger message of growth throughout history."
