Nominations are open, and this is your chance to lead the Union as an Executive Officer! But why should you run? We've put together three reasons why you should nominate yourself!
Nominations for the Union Elections are officially open. I hear you asking "But why so soon, we're still in semester one?", and I hear you, but it's never too early to start planning for your future! Hear are my top three reasons to run in the Elections.
Make the changes you want to see
As an Executive Officer, your manifesto will be based on key priorities identified by students, but you can really make the work your own! It's your job to create and run meaningful and impactful campaigns and create positive change for students, and you can choose exactly how you do it.
Gain confidence
This job comes with plenty of opportunities to speak to people, from students to university executives, at all levels - one to one and in front of large audiences. You'll soon find your feet doing this with support from our staff team, but the confidence you'll build throughout your term will help your career as you progress. And thanks to our Marketing team, you'll also get plenty of experience building your confidence in front of a camera!
The experience!
I'm not just talking about the experience of a full time job to embellish your CV (although that is a GREAT perk!), but also the opportunity to connect with the student body and see the impact your work has on them is an experience like no other. This job is unlike anything else you'll come across, as it's a truly unique experience; no two days are the same - you could be meeting with university executives one day, and giving away pancakes the next!
Our current Executive Officers are running Elections drop-in sessions where you can ask any questions. Alternatively, you can email us at elections@derbyunion.co.uk with any questions! Got a friend who you think would suit one of the three roles? Recommend them! This won’t nominate them, it will just let them know that someone thinks they would be a great candidate. And as a thank you for your recommendation, if the person you nominate puts themselves forward in the election, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win £100!
