Hi Everyone!

My name is Nduka, and I am the Vice President(Communities), currently pursuing an MRes in Leadership and Management, specialising in Project Management. My academic background has helped me develop strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills that I hope to use in serving and supporting students throughout the year.

As I stated in my manifesto, my vision of accessibility is simple; I will be present. I am committed to regularly engaging with students across all campuses, listening to their experiences, and building meaningful one-on-one connections. I want to bring the Union to the doorstep of every student at University of Derby, ensuring that students feel seen, heard, and confident that their concerns are being taken seriously and represented within the Students’ Union.

As an officer, one of my main priorities will be addressing issues that directly affect students’ wellbeing and academic experience, particularly mental stress, accommodation, transport, and employment opportunities. Many students experience pressure balancing academics, finances, work, and personal responsibilities, which can significantly affect their mental health. I hope to advocate for stronger wellbeing support systems, create more awareness around mental health, and encourage an environment where students feel safe seeking help when needed.

Accommodation and transport remain major concerns for many students, particularly commuters balancing long travel times, late lectures, and early classes. These challenges can be stressful, exhausting, and financially demanding. I hope to work with the Union and relevant bodies to ensure students’ concerns are heard and to explore support systems that can help ease these difficulties. .

I am also passionate about supporting students in accessing employment opportunities, internships, and career development resources that will help prepare them for life after university.

What I look forward to most is working closely with students from different backgrounds, collaborating with societies and communities, and making a meaningful impact during my time as an officer. I am also looking forward to working with representatives from different communities across the university to help build stronger, more connected, and inclusive communities for all students. I am excited about growing as a leader while helping to create a more supportive and engaging student experience for everyone.

A fun fact about me is that I enjoy organising projects and events that bring people together, encourage teamwork, and create positive change. I’m also naturally a very good listener and genuinely enjoy hearing people’s experiences, ideas, and perspectives. This is one of the reasons I am passionate about building strong and inclusive communities where students feel heard, valued, and represented within the Students’ Union.
