The second Online Student Forum of the 22-23 academic year was hosted by the Union of Students and the University of Derby Online Learning team.

There was a lot of discussion around learning and teaching and online student support and these points have been summarised for you below:

  • Some students had highlighted concerns regarding feedback times from academic staff with confirmation from the Online Learning Team that, if you are waiting for an email or discussion board response from your tutor, please allow up to two working days for this to arrive.
  • In addition, if you are awaiting assessment results, these should be made available two working weeks after you submitted your assessment, unless otherwise stated. Furthermore, all provisional grades released are subject to external moderation and only when this has been completed are your grades considered final.

Please note, borderline grades are also subject to ratification as Assessment Board before being considered final.

  • Students discussed how to meet with their Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) and this information should be available in your student profile. If you do not know who your PAT is, please contact your Programme Lead.
  • The provision for online societies was raised. If you are an online student who would like to start or join a society, please contact the Union of Students at Derby and they will be on hand to support you. You can view current societes on our website.
  • The Online Learning Team recommend that students regularly check their programme and module pages to ensure that they are not missing important updates and announcements. For example, you will receive an email with an opportunity to submit questions for the next Online Student Forum which is taking place on the 28th June at 4 pm (BST).

Rachel Tulloch, your current Online Student Officer, is on hand to support all online students in their studies and you can email Rachel with any queries

Soon there will be a new incoming Online Student Officer, Saul Ssekadde and we can’t wait to meet them at our next Online Student Forum!

If you missed the Forum you can catch up by clicking this link.

The next forum is Wednesday the 28th June at 4 pm and it would be great to see as many students there as possible. Information on how to join will be released closer to the time.
