Hello there! We are the Derby Occupational Therapy Society (D.O.T.S)!
The D.O.T.S ethos comprises of three parts:
- Inspire - creating socials to build friendships and have fun!
- Impact - charity work to support our local and wider community!
- Inform - educational events about the profession, AHPs, and more!
We host 2-3 events a month based on our ethos, so there is always plenty to get involved with and do! There is no commitment - so feel free to come to as much, or as little, as you like. You don’t even have to be studying occupational therapy, anyone can join! We just ask that you respect our ethos! We are open to ideas and suggestions and very much promote interprofessional learning between all health, social care and medical professions.
For every Inform and Impact event you attend, you will get a CPD certificate too, plus one for joining. Meaning you could potentially have many CPD certificates a year to use as evidence of continuous learning!
And, if that wasn’t enough, in 2020, DOTS were the proud winners of many, many awards!
- NSVA National Student Wellbeing Award 2020 (Eating Disorder Awareness Week);
- Most Charitable Society of the Year;
- Academic Society of the Year;
- Committee Recognition;
- Union Colours;
- Union Societies Platinum Status;
- Society of the Year.
However, D.O.T.S is nothing without its members! Yes, We Need You!!!
We are planning lots of events in the next few weeks, both physical and virtual so you will find something to suit you! Keep an eye out on our social media sites and come along to our stand in fresher’s week (don’t be put off by OT-REX, he’s vegetarian). We’re a friendly (if not a little eccentric), bunch of people and the society has a very strong sense of community, supporting one another and promoting the OT love! Please come and say hi to us and get involved!
We understand that due to the current circumstances, some of you may not want to attend an event in person and that’s ok! However, that’s why we are getting inventive and will be hosting virtual events including quizzes, book club, virtual coffee and chat sessions (bring your own coffee and cake), plus lots, lots more! If you have any ideas let us know!
We hope to see you soon!
