The University of Derby Rowing Club is open to all, whether you have never been in a boat or are an experienced rower looking to continue into the exciting world of University Rowing. Based at Derby Rowing Club, a welcoming friendly and competitive club located on a 2km stretch on the River Derwent, a 5 minute walk from the centre of town.

Give it a Go Day

The Give it a go days are on the 26th, 29th and 30th of September from 1.30-4pm. Please come see us at the Freshers Fair which is on the 24th-25th September.  More information may be found on our facebook page UODRC.  If you want to try it out drop us a message at any time and we'll sort it. On the day, we will welcome you at Derby Rowing Club, give a tour of the facilities and then give you the opportunity to try out the indoor and outdoor equipment. We will start by teaching you basic technique on a rowing machine, and then get you on the water in crew boats or a single with floats.

Learn to Row

At UODRC, we have an established and successful Learn to Row course which has seen members progress through the ranks to the top of UK competition in less than a year. It is a 10 session course and is only £10. The L2R course will teach you the basics of sculling and sweeping and get you to a standard where you can begin to intergate into the DRC squad system if you wish to. This will run every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 1.30-4pm from the 3rd - 24th October.

**Experienced rowers need not attend the L2R course, see Senior Squad instead**

Novice Squads

Fresh from the Learn to Row course, you will be involved in the Mens or Womens Novice Squads who train several times a week, both on the water and on land. Individuals have a choice of social or competitive rowing. We will look to get competitive rowers racing within 2 months before quickly progressing to higher levels of competition, focusing on BUCS Regatta in April/May where we recently won a bronze medal. Social members are welcome to use the land and water training facilities the same as the competitive members.

Senior Squads

For anyone who has already learned to row, at Derby RC we have a wide range of ability so you will be able to fit in with rowers of a similar standard. For those who have already trained and competed at a high standard, the senior squad train 11 sessions per week and resent results include (2-) 56th at Pairs Head, top 100 at HoRR and HoRR 4's and progression through a round at Henley Royal Regatta. DRC has a highly experienced coaching team that includes experience from within the GB Squad.

If you want to compete solely for the University, this training will be provided at the same time as the Novice Squads. As a part of this squad, you are still able to race throughout the year and will join up with DRC Senior Squad students to create crews for BUCS events.

The Social Side

At UODRC, we are not all work and no play. We hold regular social events for those who like to relax after a hard training session. We do all sorts of events as we look to get to know each other and other sports teams.
