Your Student Organisers

Student Organisers exist to build student power by supporting students to identify shared concerns, develop leadership and take action to create meaningful change within the University and wider community.

They focus on building strong relationships with students, the Union, and local organisations. They listen and empower others to have their voice heard; equip them with the knowledge, connections and resources they need to influence decision making; and run campaigns to make change.

In particular, your Organisers work with underrepresented or marginalised communities who might not otherwise have the opportunity to shape the world around them.

  • Student Organiser (Nationalities & Culture)

    Kymani she/her

Celebrating where we come from. Connecting where we are.

I’m passionate about bringing people together and creating a university community where everyone feels seen, heard and represented. As the Student Organiser for Culture and Nationality, I want to celebrate the different cultures, nationalities and experiences that make our student community unique. I believe that by learning about each other's backgrounds can help us build stronger connections, challenge assumptions and make people feel less alone. I want to help create a university environment where, diversity is not just recognised, but where our differences are genuinely celebrated and reflected throughout student life.

  • Student Organiser (Academic)

    Lucy she/her

Building confident, connected and inclusive academic communities.

As Student Organiser (Academic), I'm committed to creating a supportive and engaging academic environment where students feel confident, informed and connected. I want to strengthen communication between students and their departments, boost participation in academic opportunities and make it easier for everyone to access the support they need. My aim this year is to deliver positive and meaningful change through clear information, inclusive initiatives and a welcoming community that empowers students to succeed.

  • Student Organiser (Liberation & Equality)

    Evie they/them

    Empowering students through advocacy initiatives

My intention as a Liberation Student Organiser will be to meet the interests and needs of the student body through events, workshops and discussions. I have a particular focus on raising awareness of the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent and disabled students. I'm curious to understand what barriers students face to experiencing a full and happy student experience, sharing experiences through community focused events. I would like to reach online, mature and international students through this work too. I am excited to work alongside my fellow Student Organiser's to reach a broad cross-section of students that represent the intersectionality of the University of Derby.
