In the cafeteria there are so many single use plastics, such as at the salad bar and with the jacket potato fillings. If this could be reduced by either using a spoon to serve fillings for the jacket potatoes or having cardboard containers for the salad, I think this’ll be a great step in the right direction.

7:07pm on 16 Oct 18 Maybe the cold drinks in Blends could be served in cardboard/ non plastic containers and have paper straws instead of plastic straws. Plus the cutlery in the cafe could be wooden or not plastic.

9:38pm on 22 Oct 18 All vending machines, shops and food outlets have too much plastic. There are ways to reduce this, can there be more opportunity to purchase re usable cups and water bottles at discount prices to make them affordable and encourage less waste. Also switch plastic cutlery for wooden.

9:19pm on 23 Oct 18 There are many other options available to cut down the use of plastic, ceramic plates, bowls, cardboard boxes, cups, paper straws, to name but a few! Come on Derby uni, push the need to reduce plastic!

6:24am on 25 Oct 18 I carry a meal tub and cutlery from home in my bag for a jacket potato, same as my own mug. Is there a recyclable crisp packet? If our canteens and union shops moved toward only selling products in recyclable packaging, it might work towards companies changing their packaging quicker.

4:58pm on 16 Nov 18 Hi guys! I'm currently in the process of speaking to Aramark (who run the cafeteria) about their single-use plastics and what not, in the hopes of bringing in some more sustainable alternatives. We don't have direct control over this, but we can have an effect, so we're trying! As for in Blends, all the packaging is recyclable. Keddies and all the shops also try to make choices to move the products towards more sustainable alternatives, such as the meal deal packaging being fully recyclable. Unfortunately we don't have full control over this either, but we are doing everything we can. If you'd like to know more, please send me an email at vpcommunity@derbyunion.co.uk. Thanks! :)
