Harpur Hill was the only sports centre available to Buxton students with a cheap gym and a venue for sports games close to the campus. Buxton sports have been left high and dry with no where nearer to play than a 20 min drive or over an hour by bus. It’s been closed down with no consideration for students and their student experience, providing no alternative for games to be held. We suggest Harpur Hill is restored back to the university or another sports centre is provided.

3:01pm on 22 Oct 18 So needed, there is no way to support Buxton netball without getting a painful bus journey that doesn't even run late enough.

3:36pm on 22 Oct 18 Not only was this a great venue for hosting and playing sports within the university it was used by the local community as well. Supporting relationships between locals and the university.

7:22pm on 22 Oct 18 Trampolining needs to have a Buxton campus club. The bus to derby doesn’t even run late enough to get there and back for free, otherwise it’s an hour drive.

10:01am on 12 Feb 20 PASSED - The decision to close Harpur Hill was a business decision taken by the University and not something that can be undone. However, your Union Activities Team and Buxton Part-Time Officers, worked hard to find alternative venues within Buxton, including working with local sport clubs to provide a locally-based sporting opportunities and the University have committed to funding subsidised gym memberships in the local area to ensure students have the same offer as previously provided.
