Contactless parking meters, or change given from meters

Some students are finding it an extra stress ensuring they always have the correct change for parking meters on site; at times they are having to park further away because of this. It doesn't seem far fetched to have the meters updated so they take contactless payment much like the vending machines on campus already do (which arguably are less important than parking meters when there are cash machines and ways to get change in the building)

9:08pm on 14 Nov 18 I love this idea. I park on Broadway and they’re putting the prices up from £4 for over 4 hours to £4.20. It’s hard enough making sure I have £4 in change, never mind the extra 20p. It would be so much easier if they took contactless payment.

9:53pm on 14 Nov 18 this is surely a priority and essential for the university to provide adequate parking facilities, reduce down the need for ppl to have to park off site which causes friction with the local residents. contactless machines reduce down the need for me to obtain 62.80 in pound coins and 20p each month from my local bank. who I add think I've gone mad. however, as the machines do not give change, regularly break down and are a large part of the funding for the free uni bus services I feel more care should be taken to improve and maintain them. ideally I'd be more inclined to say a weekly parking pass which can be purchased online like print credit would be a handy, maybe with a slight discount because we are purchasing in advance but at least change giving machines and contactless we are not in the 1990's anymore.

2:25pm on 16 Nov 18 Hi everyone, I'm Jacob your Union Vice President (Welfare). I completely agree that this is an issue, especially for students who have a permit and part regularly at Kedleston Road. A few months ago I had a meeting with the Estates team to discuss a wide array of ongoing issues including car park payments. You may have noticed recently the staff that operate the barriers and patrol the car park are no longer University Security. The car park is now contracted and run by a private firm, this was done in part due to an increase in the amount of unauthorized parking on site. As part of this change in responsibility for the car park, the payment methods are being reviewed for the car park and card/alternative payment will be coming in the near future. I will continue to push the issue with the universities estate team and hopefully this will be resolved soon. I will keep you informed of any updates as the happen.
