    Larger Evening Lecture Food Selection

    It would be great if Keddies and Blends were open during evening lectures, so we can have more of a choice in regard to food and drink to give us that much needed midway boost. At the moment, it’s just Subway, but people may not like what they have to offer and would rather have something else. A coffee is also always welcome. I’m sure most of you would agree. This needs to get a lot more than 25 votes for the union to consider it however, as it would cost the uni a lot.

5:44pm on 26 Feb 19 I can see why people want this, but I can’t ever see the Union or the University being prepared to front the cost. I think students should be encouraged to bring their own coffee and food in by the uni being able to provide appropriate facilities for safely storing and chilling things such as thermos flasks and food such as sandwiches, salad, pasta and other microwaveable food. Of course you open a whole can of worms with food safety and such, but I’d imagine it works out cheaper than buying out all the time.

7:55am on 3 Jun 19 Hi Everyone, Thank you for your idea and great comments from contributers. In the past, we have trialed opening both Blends and Keddies open later into the evening to provide greater choice and provision those who have evening lectures, however, due to low demand and low sales, this becomes very costly to provide. We as a union have been pushing for greater provision of equipment for you to heat up your own food on site. 9:51am on 12 Feb 20 PASSED - the Union and the University are currently working to look out all services that are available to students during timetabled hours. The Union sits on a Task & Finish Group set up by the University to look at exactly this and we will continue to lobby for this. Due to the costs involved in opening retail outlets, this is a challenging idea - but one that we are pushing. In the meantime, you should have seen an increase in the number and quality of vending machines around all sites and there is an ongoing campaign to gather feedback on the food and drink provision; please email any thoughts to unifood@derby.ac.uk and we will continue to review all feedback alongside the relevant University staff.
