Add ‘not all disabilities are visible’ Signs to disabled toilets

As a disabled student I require to use the disabled toilets on campus. However, as my disability is not always visible I am sometimes met with looks or even confrontation when using these toilets. Simple signs on the door to remind students to not be so quick to judge would be helpful.

9:15pm on 6 Nov 19 I 100% agree with this. I have luckily never had much judgement, but can imagine it must feel horrible having to justify your actions. I think these signs should also be placed on the lifts too!

1:05pm on 7 Nov 19 Yes the lifts are also a great idea! Another issue I have for sure.

12:25pm on 8 Nov 19 Hello I am not an disabled student, however I do back this and think it is an excellent idea. That needs and should be addressed.

8:45am on 12 Nov 19 Definitely add to the outside of lifts also - it's a shame that these posters are needed in the first place!

11am on 13 Nov 19 100% agree with this. I know people who have the same issue. You can't judge it on looks and a reminder to people would be an easy to execute and great step forward for those who need it!

11:17am on 20 Nov 19 I completely agree. I have arthritis and plantar fasciitis as well as mental health anxiety. All of which have good and bad days. Some days I can walk up stairs and some days I can't. Some days I struggle in a regular toilet some days I don't. I have often been accosted at supermarkets. I dont want the same at uni. Welldone xx

7:12pm on 20 Nov 19 100% agree! And with putting them on the lifts too. "Accessible" instead "Disabled" would be a better labelling for these.

2:47pm on 25 Nov 19 Absolutely agree with this! I feel guilty for using the lifts and toilets even though I have every right to, as I don't 'look' disabled/ill.

5:07pm on 30 Jan 20 I completely back this as I’m also sick of being met with judgemental looks when using the disabled lift at uni (which is a stupid idea anyways, why isn’t there just one lift for everyone?). I recently had a member of staff tell me the lift wasn’t for me and was a service lift and I should use the stairs and also had some students walk past me and tell me I was lazy for using that lift. Uni needs to take some responsibility for these issues and make sure all staff and students are aware of the reasons people may be using disabled facilities.
