My Manifesto
Hello, I'm Pieter van Ellewee, announcing my candidacy for the NUS Delegate position. As an MA Education student, I've developed a profound understanding of student-related issues. My commitment towards student advocacy is rooted in my experiences, moulded by my current role as the Education Chair and my prior responsibilities at the NUS Derby. My journey has been about amplifying student voices and ensuring their concerns are addressed. I am eager to leverage my skills, knowledge, and passion to represent our student community at the NUS. Your vote can make a difference. Let's make that difference together.
My campaign, anchored in unity, solidarity, and student voice amplification, is defined by several key objectives I pledge to uphold if elected:

Championing Student Rights: I am committed to making the NUS a more robust advocate for students. A firm believer in our collective voice, I aim to address societal issues and challenge misrepresentation. I intend to create a platform where every student feels heard and valued.

Addressing NUS Challenges: The NUS has recently faced several internal issues. As delegates, it's our responsibility to hold the NUS accountable for its pledged reforms. I aim to ensure students have a platform to voice their concerns and opinions, and that their feedback is acted upon.

Promoting Accessible Education: I am determined to remove barriers that hinder students from accessing university education. To address the cost-of-living crisis, I will advocate for policies such as inflation-aligned maintenance loan increases, the reintroduction of NHS bursaries, and increased hardship funding.

Prioritizing Student Welfare & Safety: I vow to use my position to encourage the NUS to prioritize student welfare and safety. This involves the establishment of initiatives to prevent spiking sexual violence and the promotion of a safe, inclusive campus environment.

Launching a Mental Health Campaign: In collaboration with other NUS delegates, I plan to launch a regional mental health campaign. This initiative will aim to raise awareness, provide resources, and promote support systems, thereby offering a lifeline to students grappling with mental health issues.

By building a platform on these objectives, I hope to enact tangible changes and improvements in the lives of students. With your support, we can make our collective voice heard and make a lasting, positive impact on our education system.
