Candidate for the position of Nursing & Midwifery Officer
Tracey Taylor
My Manifesto
About Me
I came to the University of Derby in 2018 as an English and History student before realising that my true passion lies in Mental Health Nursing. As I embark onto the next stage of my studies as a third-year student, my aim is to continue within the role as Nursing and Midwifery Officer and make the experience for Nursing and Midwifery students one they will never forget.
Over the past few years the nursing profession has been thrust into the limelight as a demanding, underpaid, underappreciated, and vital profession in the UK. With ongoing strikes within Healthcare professions, Nursing and midwifery students are entering the profession at a very difficult time, and it's important that we recognise the struggles that pre-registration nurses are facing in this unpredictable climate.
What I want to achieve
The University of Derby hosts 3 branches of nursing separated across 2 campuses and 2 yearly intakes in January and September, alongside the newly introduced Midwifery degree, equalling over 4000 students! With all those students at different conjunctures, the Nursing and Midwifery school can often feel like a massive overwhelming and noisy labyrinth of information and work. I would like to see all Nursing and Midwifery students coming together, supporting each other and working together to make the nursing and midwifery degrees exciting and outstanding degrees to study at the University of Derby.
What have I done this year?
- Last year my main goal was to introduce a Student Food Bank at the university. Following a successful campaign through the ideas forum, that goal was made a reality with the Student Pantry being introduced in January 2024.
- I also introduced Nursing Study Workshops to support students with Myepad and SafeMedicate.
- I have also started working on improving the accessibility of a Uniform and Book exchange at the university.
If I am Elected I will:
- Continue to provide support to develop and grow the Student Pantry.
- Continue to host Nursing Study Workshops and Online Study Workshops.
- Continue to improve the accessibility for the uniform and book exchange.
- Create a supportive community for all nursing and midwifery students at the University of Derby.
- Host focus groups for students to bring ideas, suggestions, feedback, and improvements.
- Develop an outstanding student experience for all nursing and midwifery students at the University of Derby.
I’m excited to continue my journey as Nursing and Midwifery Officer to make the Nursing and Midwifery School at the University of Derby an outstanding place to study.
