My Manifesto
Hi everyone
I’m Dave, currently a first year studying computer games programming. I have a background in IT and I’m at Uni for a career change. I found many issues that have had a negative impact on course quality and extra curriculars. This is something I’m hugely passionate about. I would like to use my experience to pursue better outcomes and conditions for everyone.

I’ve already been addressing issues as a rep, many software issues were fixed as a direct result of my input with IT, lecturers or the program leader. This has already benefited all computing students. II was also a driving force in getting our class reps, when the university was ignoring the issue. I have the communication skills, the technical expertise and problem solving skills required.
• Develop and champion a buyback scheme designed to recycle university PCs at a massive discount for students in a way that lowers cost of ownership for the university and makes high end PCs available for course work (and gaming) improving students access to necessary hardware and improving the hardware standards in class for a lower cost to the university. This would give students cheap access to powerful machines at home/dorms as well as improving classroom equipment standards.
• Be student led: For my class I’ve pro-actively engaged them in several social channels, feedback methods and meetings to allow them more avenues to address issues. I would love to encourage this discipline (or university) wide.
• Push for more industry involvement across all computing disciplines. We need opportunities to engage with employers via multiple avenues on a regular basics. This will directly boost students employability. As an example Derby and the Midlands has a massive videogame pedigree including Rare (Goldeneye 007, Sea of Thieves) we should absolutely be engaging with them. I would like to push for at least, guest lectures, workshops, and internships as well as arrange a student group to brainstorm additional ideas.
• Push for higher standards on the class computers, we should not be suffering regular crashes, slow systems and problems saving due to basic IT issues such as forgetting to install basic device drivers. Proper standards and procedures to make sure hardware is functioning properly, in time for the start of semester, need to be in place
• Push for additional extracurricular activities that are fun, interesting and benefit our studies and for these to be effectively organised so that more students can attend
• Push for students to have access to book rooms/labs to work on their own extracurricular projects.
Great communication and problem solving, pushing for better hardware standards and access and direct
