Members of University of Derby Badminton Club, my name is William Snell, and I am glad to be putting myself forward for the role of President of the University of Derby Badminton Club. As an avid badminton player and passionate leader, I am dedicated to fostering a social and competitive badminton club for all members
If elected, my vision is to make our club more inclusive, competitive, and engaging while ensuring that everyone has a fantastic time on and off the court. My key goals include:
- Ensuring session times are accessible to as many members as possible, with an aim to access some court time in the evening
- Adding an extra session for all members at least once a month in a ‘club night’ format with competitive games and mixed partnerships thanks to a peg board system.
- If there is enough interest from members begin planning to enter a team into the local club league competition to allow for more competitive matches for members, this will also help us succeed in BUCs competitions (this is unlikely to be achieved in a year but we could possibly organise some friendly matches with local clubs).
- Close the gap between our ‘development’ sessions and Team Derby’s ‘Just Play’ sessions to increase participation within the club giving more opportunities for people to play badminton.
- Take a close look at membership prices and club finances with the aim of providing the most value for money possible
- Continue our good social media presence from the last year into next to document all the great things that come from the club.
- Ensure provisions for our Performance team continue to be of the highest quality allowing you all to be in the best place to compete not only at BUCs but also domestic and international competition.
Why am I best person to deliver this?
- I have experience within club badminton having been a key member in the forming of Oldfield Park Badminton Club - currently a 20+ member club operating in Bath, with multiple league teams and their Men’s 1sts being in the topflight of the Bristol and District league. Also helping keep Freshford St Georges Badminton Club operating by lowing operational costs and recruiting younger members after the club struggled with membership numbers coming out of the Covid Pandemic.
- I was awarded the Badminton England Geoff Roff Young Volunteer of the Year award in 2021 for my impact to the sport in the local community, proving my ability to impact at a grassroots level and my commitment to the sport.
- I firmly believe a club is all about its members and that their opinions matter the most so will always be ready to listen to and consider ideas anyone has for the club.
Together, we can make the University of Derby Badminton Club one of most successful and exciting on campus.
