Candidate for the position of Badminton - President

Anthony Peverell

Introduction

I have been in the derby badminton team for 1 year and alongside my studies of Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation. I believe experience and knowledge I have gained over this period make me an ideal candidate. Badminton at Derby University is more than just a sport—it’s a community that brings people together, fosters personal growth, and drives competitive success. I am running for Club President because I believe in the potential of this club and want to lead it toward a future of greater opportunities, inclusivity, and success. With two years left in my course, I can offer long-term leadership and consistency that will allow real progress to take place.

My Vision

I want to create an environment where every player, whether developing, or competitive, has access to the best opportunities to improve, compete, and enjoy their time in the club. By increasing training hours and building a strong, friendly community, we can elevate this club to new heights

Priorities & Plans

1. More court time for all players

  • Work closely with the university to secure additional training hours.
  • Ensure fair court distribution between teams and development players.
  • Create structured open sessions to maximize playing time for all skill levels.

2. A beneficial competitive based programme

  • Implement a structured training programme with personalised focus.
  • Organize regular match practice between teams to sharpen competitive edge.

3. An inclusive and friendly environment

  • Make the club a welcoming place for players of all levels.
  • Encourage organisation of more club social events and team-building activities to strengthen the bond between all players.
  • Actively promote diversity and accessibility, ensuring everyone feels valued and supported.

4. Increased engagement and opportunities for progress

  • Introduce sessions tailored for beginners, intermediates, and advanced players.
  • Organize friendly competitions and internal tournaments to encourage participation and growth.
  • Maintain high quality equipment standards to give the best opportunity for improvement.
  • Encourage engagement between teams to create a more inclusive environment.

Why Me?

  • I have two years left in my course, ensuring long-term progress rather than short-term change.
  • I am not just here to maintain the club but I’m here to transform it for the better.
  • I have been an active and committed member of this club for almost a year now and understand what it needs to grow.
  • I believe that every member, from social players to the top team, deserves the best experience possible.
