My name is Andy Smith. I am currently a first year student on the LLB Law degree based in One Friar Gate Square.
This is my second degree at the University of Derby. A ‘few’ years ago I scraped through my first degree in Business Management. Since then I have worked in engineering then digital marketing, eventually running my own award-winning marketing agency employing 9 people. I am an advocate for mental health and have benefitted from addressing and coming through severe depression and anxiety.
The students and staff at OFGS benefit from working and studying in close proximity. We are our own close community. The challenges of OFGS directly affect us all. I want to run for Part Time Officer to serve everyone at OFGS and play my part in improving our collective experience at OFGS.
3 key aims
- focus on improving the quality, availability and speed of the offering at the OFGS cafeteria – we’ve all stood in line at Blends only to inevitably rush back to lectures without being served
- address the issues with the toilets at OFGS which leave many female students feeling uncomfortable – no-one should feel uncomfortable where they study
- draw on my own experiences and work with Mental Health First Aid England to assist UoD wellbeing with the mental health challenges that are unique to OFGS
Whilst I have numerous aims, I am limited to just three in this manifesto. Please feel free to talk to me about my other objectives involving anonymous marking & feedback, communication and provisions in lecture rooms.
My achievements/experience
In the past I’ve been a figurehead for government projects for businesses and internet marketing. I’ve built my own successful business and most recently represented my peers as a student representative for Law. Ultimately though, I listen. I’m here to use my experiences and background to help improve everyone’s experience and help you achieve your aims.
