Name: Alexandra Mazilu

Post: Part Time Officer (Electronics, Computing & Mathematics)

My name is Alexandra, I am currently a first year student on the Mathematics and Computer Science degree based at Markeaton Campus.

I have chosen a mathematics degree because I like the idea of trying to solve problems until the solution is found, even if failure might occur.
I am a person who enjoys taking part in activities that are going to have impact on people and communities. I am good at both individual and team work, being part of different volunteering groups, being a senior prefect during sixth form and holding an NCS certificate.

Therefore, I want to run for Part Time Officer so other people who share the same passion for STEM subjects as I do can study and enjoy their course in a better environment, adapted for their needs.

Key Aims:

• provide every computer and laptop from Markeaton and Britannia Mill Campuses with the programs needed for assessments that are available only on certain computers (example: Visual Studio which is only available on the computers located in the computer lab on 2nd floor, Markeaton)

• provide an idea box for each campus of University of Derby where students can anonymously suggest ideas for the university and Union, including events and changes they would like to see

• Saturday buses when events happen at the main campus (example: Student Ambassador recruitment)

What impact I had as a student:

During my time as a student in sixth form I have been part of the Senior Prefect team where I helped with different school activities such as open evenings, parents evenings and assemblies, where I organized and presented a week of assemblies about mental health for both secondary school and sixth form. Furthermore, I ran two year 7 mathematics classes in which I organized quizzes with prizes for students.
