Corey Beck for President

I am Corey Beck, the current Union President. I would like to thank everyone that voted me into this role previously and I would like to put myself forward for another year as President. As well as the experience from being in the role, I have been a student athlete, a student with a disability and a part-time officer. I believe I can use this experience to take the Union into a new era, championing the views of students and making sure that students are heard at every level of the University.

To date in my role, I have lobbied for additional funding into accessibility to improve the virtual learning environment for all students; helped secure funding for more Union infrastructure; and advocate for rent waivers for students, as well as, writing to Members of Parliament to ensure students’ voices are heard not just at Derby, but that Derby Students’ voice is heard within the Government.

If elected for a further year, my aim is:

A Union:

With students at the heart

I will ensure that any changes proposed or new ideas for the strategy and direction of the Union are clearly informed by students and that all students are represented fairly and equally. This will also include improving engagement and making the platforms more accessible.

With better spaces for students

Who doesn’t love some fresh décor? Parts of the Union are in need of a renovation and students need better spaces across campus to study, socialise and collaborate. I want to find out exactly what students want and to then draw up our plans together. There are so many students in need of extra work experience and are talented and can contribute to this project. I want to create those opportunities.

With a new strategic framework

The Union’s strategy is coming to the end of it’s lifespan this year, after been extended due to Covid-19. I want to ensure that as many students as possible are consulted and that it is inclusive of the more recent student priorities that haven’t previously being specifically included. Such as student mental health; along with accessibility and equality at the core of the framework.
