Hello! My name is Maisie Lodge and I am currently in the second year of a primary teaching degree.
Being both a mature and student parent, I have really thrown myself into the University experience by being involved in as much as I can, including being an academic rep for my course in my first year, and taking part in focus groups in order to improve aspects of University life. I love helping people by listening to them, gathering their feedback and suggestions, and putting it before the right people at the Union and University in order to make positive changes.
I have spent the past year being the part time officer (PTO) for student parents and carers. So far, I have supported the application for a new society, hosted online events, and taken issues facing parents and carers during lockdown before senior members of the University. With another year in this role, I aim to:
- Make policies more accessible, with the option of having a support plan drawn up to support parents and carers when they first enrol.
- Build a strong and supportive online community through various social media platforms.
- Get the student parents and carers society fully up and running.
Ultimately, I want to ensure that the needs and experiences of student parents and carers are heard and addressed in order to build a welcoming and supportive environment for this unique group of students! Please consider voting for me to be your part time officer for student parents and carers!
