Matthew Robinson

Hi, I am Matthew Robinson a part time third year business and management student and I am standing to be your next mental health awareness officer. Having done my first two years at Aberystwyth and leaving in my third year due to my own mental health, I understand how difficult it can be. I would like to raise awareness of mental health to help people talk and not to get to the place that I did. As an officer I would focus on listening to, and acting in the best interests of, students. So together we can aim towards moving the university forward and to help support student welfare.

So, what would I do as an officer?

1) Support

Students are not all the same, we all have our own unique issues and problems. In this difficult time it is important to remember that students are not a number, percentage, or figure. I want to ensure that students have the support in place to help them in this difficult time.

2) Every Student.

· We can all help to support each other. Everyone should have the same help and support. We should respect and celebrate race, sexuality, gender, age, disability, and religion to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities. I will continue the Students Union amazing work on mental health awareness and support. As I have personal experience of the benefits from support and increased awareness on these issues, I understand the importance of providing information and support to all.

3) Student Voice

· I want everyone to be able to speak up and not only to be listened to, but also heard. I will do everything I can to help tackle any problems and to direct you to the help you may need.

If elected, I will be your welfare officer and my work will be directed by you.
