A computing society by and for the students
I am Daniel, a first year dead set on becoming the president of the computing society because I wholeheartedly believe I can provide practical solutions to its many failings that have been openly admitted to by the current members. Here's how I will solve the major issues.
- A society not run by students: Fortunately, that's not much of an issue to solve. By simply voting for me, you can secure a society that is more in tune with the beliefs and attitudes of its members. This is guaranteed, because I sit in the same lessons and do the same work as every single one of you.
- Barren event roster: It's no secret that the computing society has less events than most other societies. Look no further than how little we have in terms of events per year. When in power, I will not only do everything I can to organise more 'real life' activites such as the game jam and hackathon, but also explore the possibily of digital alternatives and competitons. As a minimum, I will keep people updated as to relevant events held by the general public. Various jams etc happen every week, but they are not well advertised upon the global stage.
- A sense of community: When it comes to the society as a whole, who really knows who? To have everyone get to know each other more I will attempt to organise casual events thats people can attend to meet new people. These will be a mix of real and digital events - simple, generally low stress activites like going out for a drink or playing popular games
But why me?
I believe that I have all the desireable qualities, from both a personal and academic standpoint, that you would expect for someone becoming president of a society - especially one that reaches as far and wide as this one.
First of all, I have absolutely no qualms with taking complaints and demanding changes straight to the highest levels of managment. It's their job to listen and deal with problems, and if theres anything I cannot solve you can be assured I WILL make them hear about it. Secondly, I can push paper. Being president generally involves a lot of communication, emails, and dealing with people. My patience and ability to work through whatever is required will be an invaluable asset in the coming year. This also extends to my impecable organisational skills, which I will utilise to ensure everything is ready for the relevant activites, and those attending will be kept well informed on the situations. Then, of course, theres my love and passion for the subject matter as a whole. I'm aware the society serves a wide range of computing modules, and I will ensure that no one feels sidelined because its a smaller course - events will be organised with everybody in mind.
Overall, I will become the steadfast voice of reason and integrity this society deserves. No tricky decisions will be avoided, and no student will be left unheard.
Vote for me.
